Plus a new Rune Factory ''series''(?) is in development! Rune Factory 3 was pretty cool on DS, so I'm definitely excited!

Rune Factory 3 is my favorite of the numbered titles. Will pick this up for sure, also fuck all my free time and my wallet. So much farming to do.

I remember hitting a wall in the game because I had to grow plants that have to be planted in special season caves and I had to run to water them for a whole year or something. It was very long ago so maybe I misunderstood it. If this is something that was in the game I hope it's no longer needed in this version.

Hopefully they add the rf4 qol updates. Despite it being my first/favourite , I haven't gone back because its kinda monetomous without those qol things. I remember thinking the ending wasn't amazing but can't really remember it or the post game.
RF4 was also too long imo and i liked rf3 more because of that i guess.

More info on the website, very similar to 4 Special:

Hope they update it to allow gay marriage, loved that they let you in RF5.

Doesn't look like it as they only show the original MC. If they were going to expand to allow gay marriage they probably would have to put in bachelors, and at that point you'd also make another option for the MC to cover all bases.

Rune Factory 4 Special is a great start for that, and it's pretty cheap. Lots of good content and added bonuses.

I gasped when this popped up in the Direct. Longing for more Rune Factory after finishing RF4S had me tempted to pick this up but I held off even though it sounded great. RF3 getting that Special treatment is an awesome surprise, especially after RF5 ended up not quite seeming like the game to scratch that itch again.

RF5 was built with it in mind, and because RF4 had gender choices, most of the dialog was already there for the gay options. Since this only has the male protag, that would mean needing to add new voices and lots of new dialog for gay and female options. These games have enormous scripts, some of the biggest in gaming, period.

So thrilled the series is experiencing a revival in the modern age. The wait after 4 on 3DS was SO LONG but here we are with a third game about to release on the Switch (even if two are just HD ports/enhanced editions)

I got into the series with 2 and played the hell out of 4, but I haven't played 3 so I'm looking forward to this. The "new series" has me intrigued too.

This is so awesome. Two of the best farming sim games are now on Switch (Rune Factory 3 and 4).

For the new "series" announced.. I've been thinking that a Rune Factory Warriors type of game would be pretty rad. You already have a ton of characters with lots of weapons that could make for a really interesting spin-off imo.

Super excited for this! So glad they're bringing over the games to consoles!
This is probably just me but I really hope they either port over or have updated releases of Rune Factory Frontier and Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny.

New project is not Rune Factory 6
• The game is still in early development.
• Maekawa said they want a new challenge. He said that the series gameplay was 'perfected' in 3, and that the later games were mainly based off of RF3. They want the next numbered game to feel like a new adventure.
• reason why they didn't title it 6 is they didn't want to confuse/bewilder fans. He said in the interview that position-wise, the new game is close to Frontier and Oceans.
• They want to keep the 3 core elements of rune factory in the new game: Adventure, Life sim and Romance.
• Rune Factory 6 is in their plans to be developed.
New Rune Factory 3 Special features
• New opening animation with new song
• more saves
• Newly wed mode like in RF4 special
• 3D models are completely new (unlike in RF4 where they reused the 3DS models)
Maekawa also said that depending on Rune Factory 3 Special's reception, they might consider remaking Rune Factory 1 and 2.

I mean, completely new character models was easy to see from the trailer. They actually look better than the 3D models in 4.
That being said, 4 still looks better thanks to higher res backgrounds. I don't think the filter they applies is enough and I wish they would redo the backgrounds too. Or at least use a better upscaling technique.

it'd be nice but i'm guessing redoing the backgrounds to 720p/1080p in that way just isn't in the budget they can give these special games.
